Cu-Avana Intenso toro. Budget minded Nicaraguan cigar that packs the power from beginning to end. Usually smoke the smaller gordo vitola (4.5x54) but the toro was just begging to be lit today.
Thick toothy, almost black, oily corojo wrapper covers the dense well rolled stick. Once punched the prelight draw was perfect with a nice sweet raisin to molasses flavor. Once lit the dominant flavors are rich earth and wood with the ligero lending a pleasant spice through the nose. Subtle sweetness comes through the dense voluminous smoke and compliments the spice nicely. Slow burner as it stayed lit when I had to direct my attention to something else for about 10 minutes!
Definitely a full stomach cigar as the flavor and strength border on 'over the top'. Almost as if Nestor Plasencia blended it to be the fullest most flavorful cigar then backed it off just a hair. Not for the faint of heart but if you want a full cigar after a nice roast joint of beef this should be on the short list.
Illusione (& Tatuaje) are one of the cigars I'd really love to try... should have a couple of Epernay and cg:4 coming over soon, if my sweet little brother keeps his promise while he's in NYC for work.
