POR LARRANGA - EXCLUSIVO REINO UNIDO

I had the afternoon off today so decided to toke off a Por Larranga gifted to me by Nic Wing. I didn't manage the fireside conditions you were recommended, Nic, but smoked it in idyllic circumstances in my smoke shack nonetheless with my dog Archie snuggled up with me on the leather sofa in my smoke-shack.

    What can I say?

Well... This smoke was sublime and lasted almost two hours!

A fantastic even and trouble-free burn throughout. A beautiful, regular draw. Oodles of rich, slow-moving and thick smoke.

I don't think I've enjoyed a PL before. On this outing, I'll smoke more Por Larranagas in the future.

It was somewhat lighter than the heavier cigars I smoke by choice. It was similar to a Hoyo but with quite a bit more oomph. I tasted almonds and coffee. I worked it with about four good-sized mugs of Assam tea.

I'm meeting a chap I don't know tonight for a song-writing 'blind date' and this stick has put me in a creative frame of mind for sure.

I'm sure I smell like a stogie whore so I'll douche down ready for the meet.

On the drive home, I will knock off a Partagas D4.

Don't know about you, but one great cigar sets me up for another whenever possible.

I might go for days without after this.

A superb way to toke away a rather still, grey afternoon weather-wise here.

Thank you you big long fat bastard of a Havana.

A top-class smoking moment in blissful human solitude, nudged in the groin from time to time by my adoring pooch.

    I love such times.

    My first ever Por Larranaga.

Very nice...Robusto! That sounds like a great smoke. I have yet to try a Por Larranga myself. I will have to now.

      It was great, Sir.
I do like it when a new door opens cigar-wise.

I forgot to mention it had a really sexy aroma, too.

In my first (and only bomb) I received from a nice and generous chap in the UK was a Cuban brand I had never flirted with. The brand is Quintero. I did some research and they appear to be a machine made Cuban cigar and only make smaller gauge cigars.

I found myself trying to fix my sisters macbook today and decided to reward myself. A glass from the bottle of wine I opened from '98 and a smoke, the little Quintero had been calling my name for some days.

Well gosh, what an entirely acceptable smoke. Flavourful, acceptable draw, etc. I suspect this particular example was some years old and had improved as a result but that is just guess work. It will not set the world on fire but leagues better then the majority of NC smoke I have had.

If you get the chance, try one!

Sounds like the Por Larranaga Magnifico - which is a UK Regional from 2007, some of those on the walk, on the day of the UKCF 1 year herf, were lucky enough to acquire some of these from Dunhill. I understand that its a rehash of the por larranaga Magnum - which has been discontinued... Simon Chase loved the Cigar so much, that he wanted to bring it back, but as Magnum is being used by H.Upmann - the name Magnifico was chosen. It is also about 2mm shorter than the original.

To Twist or Untwist....that is the question.

Senor Senor, I have a Partagas Culebras that I brought back from Davidoff's of London in 2002. What do you think? Should I untwist the bugger and give 'er a go, or keep on aging?

Tonight I started with a HdM Petite Robusto that I found in one of my short-stock drawers. Very nice puro, not one of my favs, however.

I followed this with a '07 Cohiba Siglo I. Sparked it up with my new Montecristo Signature soft-flame lighter, using the "toasting" method, before heading out to inspect my spread as the sun was setting. Sweet!

The Siglo I is a recent "rediscovery" for me. My first was from a shop in Pairs in 2002 during my first visit to London and Paris, and it's been a love affair that has withstood the test of time.

Exactly senor tea! Several years ago near the turn of the century, I received a box gratis with the purchase of another box of puros. I can't remember what I purchased, but I still have the box of Quinteros hanging around my humi takin' up valuable real estate .

As you say, it is an acceptable smoke that is perfect for gifting tobeginners.

As the man sez, pick one up and smoke it sometime....it certainly won't break your bank!
