When I was putting the Cigar Walk together I interviewed all the store Managers and some other old hands in the business and I asked them all what was the best cigar they had ever smoked.

To a man they said it was not so much the cigar as the place they smoked the cigar.

Well yesterday I smoked the most wonderful cigar in the heaven for fly fishermen.

I had been invited by a friend for a days fishing on the Test just south of Stockbridge. The water is owned by Orvis and is called the "Ginger Beer beat". It's nirvana for fly fishers and back's on to Roger Walter's gaff which also has it's own frontage onto the river.

I caught two beautiful brown trout and had a blissful day.

After lunch I fired up one of Armando's (the cigar roller) fresh sticks which I had picked up last Friday.

It was truly wonderful, my only disapointments were that the fishing slightly distracted me from it, also I have realised that I need a proper flame thrower lighter for the windy days to toast it up properly. It was incredibly windy which meant that the cigar burned unevenly and also all that wonderful smoke and smell got blown away.

I had selected one from the milder end of Armando's desk and it smelt just fantastic, I'm going to hope to track him down for one more before he heads off home.

I have to say - the Duke is an amazing smoke, but each smoke i had was better than the last! Such a great place!

I love about 8 miles east of Stockbridge, looks like you had a good day for it, if a little blustery...!?!

          Cheers, HabanoSy

It was just a tad blowy but the fish didn't appear to notice!
