FOH experimented with this recently with very positive experiences, personally I’ve never tried it but I know some who swear by it.

I'm not sure anyone really understands the science behind it but on a fresh or a cheap cigar it can knock the elbows off it and give you a smoother smoke. On an old cigar it can return a little something to the wrapper.
