The SLR is going down well, quite a bit of Omph about it, I think tese are a bit young but very tasty
Leathery, bit woody with a slight spicyness
Wife just phoned to see how I was getting on, I couldnt lie said I was about to clean the paint brushes

Working lunch - Monte PE with a Leffe and a really good Ploughmans (vintage cheder, home made chutney etc) and a good friend.

This PE was the worst so far of this box (all the others have been great). just a little flat, bit one-dimensional and never got me excited. Draw was medium and burn required a little correction (but nothing major). Plenty of smoke just a bit dull (but my expectations are high for these babies).

My cigar day has comprised thus far:

Cuban Crafters Don Kiki brown label Figurado (small). Obtained as part of a sampler. Genuine Figurado with the front loaded bulge and small lighting tip which I always find a complete bugger to light. I didn't do too bad with this one. Intense peppery taste upon lighting. Too much for me. As the light entered the bulge the cigar began to smoke better. However, this inch and half was the only part of the cigar I enjoyed. As the light passed the bulge and the cigar narrowed down the flavour came too strong and intense. Good draw, as ever, on Don Kiki cigars. So far, this is the only Cuban Crafters labelled cigar I would not reorder.

Second up was a Cuban Crafters "Army" Salute to Arms Churchill. These are full size 50mm Churchills. They do a range labelled Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and National Guard. So far as I can ascertain the cigars are all the same, just labelled for a different military service. Obviously, this is a gimmick designed to appeal to the American natural support for their military. Excellent perfect draw. Don Kiki advertises that his Torcedores were all trained in Cuba. He should send them back to retrain the Cubans as from what I have dealt with lately draw wise they need retraining. The cigar smoked perfectly, good ash and good burn. I enjoyed it.

An H.Upmann Connoisseur No.1 for me so far today, weathers been a bit shitty down this neck of the woods, so had to sit in the smokin shed in order to smoke it...

              Cheers, HabanoSy

Bit of a recent find for me this one, despite being an Upmann fan (Sir Winston, Monarchs, Mag50, Mag 46, #2 etc.) Loving this brand - don't understand their absence from the ER lists, given the never ending supply of PLs, RAs, Bolis etc.

                  Agreed bnelly...

Although I am looking forward to the Magnum 48 this time around, will definitely be getting some boxes of these to age and to smoke now...

That's if they don't cost too much...!?!

                  Cheers, HabanoSy

Well, I couldn't resist plucking one of my newly arrived friends from 1001cubans out of my humi this evening. I planned to wait until tomorrow, but as my wife seemed intent on reorganising kitchen cupboards before we sat down to home made Mexican fajitas, I decided to retreat to the smoking lounge to sample a Juan Lopez Petit Corona - which I am now finishing off as I write this.

Being the cheapest of the cigars from my shopping cart, I wasn't expecting too much, but this little baby is packed full of flavour...

Quite hard on the draw, but very rewarding; quite sweet, with overtones of nuts, chocolate, cinnamon and pepper. I am also detecting green tea in their somewhere.

It's burning perfectly with long, even ash.

Not bad at all, this little fella!

Very nice post here Big Al. I've had the Don Kiki Red and the Green and always wondered about the other "gimmicky" cigars they offer. Interesting to read about your thoughts on the Salute to Arms. Thanks for the insight.

Partagas serie d no 4 for me today. Had a box in the humi for 6 weeks now - finally gave in and lit one up.

Well worth the wait and the best cigar ive had in a long time. Gave me everything i want from a CC. After having the worst cigar ever last night - 5 vegas classic imho did nothing for me plus bad burn and a definite bad taste - this reaffirms my love for true CC.Highly recommended.

I got some Serie D too and I just couldn't wait! I HAD to light one up soon after they came out of the box. I wish I had waited but it was still a damn good cigar!

Okay, Big Al, you'd been warned and damned if you didn't just do it again.

Until you opened your maw, Tabacalera Esteli was one of the best kept secrets in the cigar world. Now, everyone and their three-legged llamas knows about them.
