2007 HdM Churchill. Happy smoking UKCF people [emoji106]

• #2
Started to smoke a Monte No.2 today - first third very flavourless; ash, hint of pepper, and minerals on the tongue. Needless to say i dumped this not long after the first third - a damp squib of a smoke, that is really frustrating! May take a few days hiatus to recharge the taste-buds

Today was a walk in the park!

More weather like this please.

Petite Robusto 2014. Just right.

I had COTM from moteyi a few months back today. I remember I didn't like the first one...but I think it was due the tar build up in the punch hole...but today I really enjoyed it....was a nice mild smoke suitable for the range today.

The big problem with Monte is that it's probably the most inconsistent marca there is. A good Monte can be stellar, but a bad one is really bad. That's why I kinda stopped buying Monte except for last years LE and the 80th. I also got a few aged Especiales No.2 because I like skinny cigars and never tried one.

The only Montes I will buy in the future is the No.1 and the Especiales no.1 because I never tried them and I would love to get my hands on a A to smoke because I only have one from 2001 and I can't bring myself to smoke it. Other than that I have completely written off this marca. I'd rather spend my money on something more consistent and I still have a ton of regular production that I purchased in 2015 and 2016 to smoke. I will probably have one in the coming days.

Ah, like you said, it is such a shame! When you get a great box of them it is just chocolate, cream, and spice - all the flavours that really work for me! I now have quite a few different boxes of Monte's in my collection; and i am hoping that they'll be more hits than misses(!) - but you are quite right, moving forward I may invest more in other more reliable marcas - at least to save my disappointment!

That's what I did. I was surprised when I saw that you had purchased 3 boxes of Monte the other day. It's really weird since I've had smokes from the same box that were great and/or sucked. Go figure. I have a box of 2014 Edmundos though that's really nice but only smoke one or two a year now since I never will buy another box. So they need to last.

Haha, when i posted up my recent acquisitions I was also surprised that i had acquired 3 boxes of Monte's! I must assume that the lingering memory of the fantastic box of petit No.2s that i have spurred me on to purchasing them...

Hopefully they'll all turn out to be great boxes, but i will chalk this up as a lesson to NOT buy cigars when still in the amorous throws of a good smoke. A bit like you should't go shopping when your hungry...

Had an A with about 10 years on it. A real let down. The first 3 inches was like smoking a silk cut ultra. Absolutely flavourless. Then it got up to mild and stayed there. At least i could tell i was smoking something. Considering it cost 40 quid id never go near one again.

I've got just 2 Monte 2's left from a couple of boxes from a decade ago. Which have all been really nice rich tasty. Very sad to hear this tale of woe.

I really hope my recent Monte purchases live up to my personal Monte experiences......

So far the only one I've not liked is the Open Master...

Started with a HdM Pet Rob from a box split with PeeJay a few years ago- no pic was too good to put down and faff about ! Sweet rich with oodles of cedar in the second half! Now onto this one after a hefty lunch

Alec Bradley Fine and Rare 2015 today, why can't all cigar bands be like this?
