Staying with the seasonal influence I smoked CAO's Rabid Reindeer which was their Christmas release foe 2014. This is a dark maduro toro measuring 6.5" x 52 and was based on their MX2 range with added ligero leaf in keeping with the 'rabid' part. I've had MX2s that threatened to put me on my arse so I can only think that this has mellowed in the last three years. The stick was very firm and burned perfectly from end to end with no relights required. Very smooth with a classic NC maduro flavour it was an enjoyable smoke and way better than the film I was watching - 'The Limehouse Golem' - give it a miss.

I enjoyed reading Peter Ackroyd’s book Dan Leno and The Limehouse Golem but agree that the film was not very good.

A ghurka cellar reserve from a cheap gurkha sampler. Thought a larger stick is in order since its a balmy 10 degrees.

And just to follow up. This and the gurkha beauty ive had have really surprised me. Ive heard so many bad things i really didnt expect much but they have both been really good. For 2 or 3 quid a stick they are great value. This one is fairly full bodied with a slight sweetness. Very well balanced though and no harshness at all. The beauty was mild and hay like which was perfect for a midday stick. Recommend picking a few up to try if you like your ncs.

I smoked a Partagas Anejados this afternoon and it was a really good cigar. The draw and construction were perfect. The first and second third were really light , sweet and smooth. The last third was a lot stronger, with "traditional" Partagas flavors. If you want to try one I highly recommend it!

I cracked open one of my Secret Santa Smokes; the SLR RE Peru - a little spice bomb, full flavour with some heavy spices running throughout, perfect size for such a blend, and an enjoyable 45 mins.

                Thank you Santa! .
