Im trying a new curiosity as i venture on my cigar journey. A Flor de Filipinas petit torpedo Maduro

    Modified copy of IMG_4295.jpg

Wrapper like burnt bark on a softwood, spiked with prominent veins and an almost homemade feel to the whole thing. Reasonable size for the day which was overcast, cold and windy. Very rough cap with what seemed to be corrected errors. Smelled of wood ash and old leather. I had already thought of a nickname for this...

Draw fair, slight tightness and I would recut later. firm to soft body, initial aroma of burnt wood and paper, need to keep working it, little smoke but might be the day. strong in the mouth and rough in the hand, initial tasting like a machine made. This had begun as a dark smoke which complimented its appearance. Nice band. A purge of the stick finally brought some tobacco aroma but very one dimensional. Aroma still like wet leather, worn out wet leather. Brittle ash, frequent relights needed. I didn't want to work this too hard because I was returning to work and didn't want the taste of Hades in my mouth so I chose to relight. On the recut there was a better smoother draw but still just ...tobacco...in a fairly rough way.

Second part now fairly woody with grass...wet grass. What is it with the wet? Here came the nic hit. Right behind my left eye. No warning and then boom - there it was. Fleeting though, I don't think this holds much metal. Ash appears rougher but may be the weather. An uneven burn that I flame up with the cigar traveller I brought along (and glad that I did for the number of relights).

Into the last 3rd. A little smoothness again but nothing to speak of. The tobacco aroma still obvious like a packet hamlet, heat and pepper and still a dark, dark, smoke.

Perfect for Blondie seeking Il Brutto ...

But for me it was farewell 'little bastard'

Smoking a RyJ no.3 today. Will be honest and say am not enjoying first 3rd that much. But sour and tongue feels bit like I liked a 9v battery!!

Edit: definitely improved but not one I'll rush out for again

That is a great review Demeter. Might be an idea to copy the post into the review section.

I started out with a Davidoff Nicaragua Diadema but it was so peppery from the outset that I ditched it and switched to a regular little favourite instead
