Caribbean Rounds

You will read a lot on the Internet about Cubans are the only cigars you can age and how old cigars aren't worth smoking, only collecting for their novelty value. Today I smoked a Caribbean Rounds from 1949. Sadly it isn't have a band, the name was on the well yellowed cello. The stick was quite firm with a bit of spring but the cap took more effort to cut than I've ever had to use before. The draw was spot and as you can see the burn was perfect, no relights or correction required. As for the taste, the cold draw was musty, like opening an old cupboard but once lit it was tannic and fragrant with no harshness at all. I gave it up in the final quarter when the taste got astringent and almost minty.

1949? That's a seriously well-aged cigar! Great ash in that shot .

Fascinating reading about this aged stick I would have assumed it was well beyond anything resembling a smoke.

Started off with a Rocky Patel Vintage 1990 Petite Corona but it just didn't do it for me. Ditched it after 5mins and opted for a Sancho Panza Non Plus which was much more enjoyable. A slight burn issue, probably caused by the wind, soon forested itself and turned out to be a lovely smoke

Very tight draw which gave an unpleasant burnt tobacco flavour over anything else. I've heard good things about RP and I've had a decent one before so I'll not give up on the marque just yet [emoji16]
