Started with promising rich cocoa/chocolate flavours on the pre-lit cold draw but upon lighting was rather harsh over the first inch and then settled down nicely until the second half when it had burn issues which meant I had to keep relighting it and then developed a rather unpleasant ammonia taste prompting me to put it down sooner than I would have liked. Will be laying the other two I have down in the humi for at least a year and I must admit that my HDM preference is nowadays for the Especial and in particular the Short Pir?mides LE 2011.

Do you cut before you light? Try lighting it first and you might find that first 1/2" or so a lot smoother because it hasn't been contaminated by ignition fumes being drawn through it.

Good point PeeJay. Yes I do generally cut before lighting and have tried cutting after lighting in the past as you suggest but don't do it as a rule although I think I'll will now start doing so in the future. Is this something you do with every stick?

Yes it is except when I punch a cigar and then I put my finger over the end so the effect is the same
Won an auction lot last week from a guy who lives near the French border, low & behold he turned up today to deliver in person! Unfortunately he was under the weather so we settled on a pair of Hoyo Margaritas from Tommy as Cliff hadn't tried them before. I hadn't had one for years & was pleasantly surprised how good it was, cheers Tommy! Sorry pics not uploading.
