There was a pretty cool sunset here today so I decided to chill out and smoke one of my pickups from Langkawi.

Went for a Diamond Crown Maximus Robusto #5. I bought it mainly because I loved the band and I had heard very good things about the Julius Caesar stick.

This was very bitter and not too my taste. Was a quick burner though which is what I wanted. Was very veiny but still had a good even burn and a nice draw.

Partagas Serie D No 6. Little fella almost as broard as it's long. Smooth Colorado wrapper, but not much in the way of a sheen. Nice barnyard aroma, though the pre-draw was a little on the loose side. The ash as you can see was solid but I had to do several corrections to keep the thing in line, and the smoke from the burning wrapper reeked really badly. The start was nothing I've ever tasted before and incredibly salty. Around the second photo it started to sweeten a bit and the citric sensation was something like watery nectarine (which I didn't mind), but it didn't last and evolved into something dry and chemically unpleasant. I ditched it with about a third to go.

Not really sure where Habanos are going with these, I get the market desire for shorter smokes, the Petit Edmundo is excellent, so are a fair few of the petit sized REs .... but this in MO really isn't. Not to be repeated and not recommended .... even to TJ.

An 02 Hoyo du Prince for me today and it was good. Roasted nut predominated with a hint of pepper on the finish and I'm sure I detected a floral note in there too. How good was it? See for yourself.

A Gurka Cellar Reserve Koi while walking the dog! First cigar in a while and it was awful just a strong fag ash flavour so binned it immediately and placed where it belonged with the rest of the dog s**t unimpressed [emoji20]

So will try again this week and go with a nice Cuban instead [emoji4]

Going out tonight with new Belgian mate, Zowie (male) & having a few smokes down the cafe, interesting to see how many they get in the glass smoking room on a Monday evening, as I am only usually an afternoon visitor.

One thing I've noticed with the smoking ban my clothes smell a lot fresher after a night out !!!!!

That's a shame it did not perform or impress. Out of curiosity, do you know the age of it?

Yeah, I pondered on that one for a while too

Out with local Havana expert, Zowie Kokx tonight, had a great time,as always, down our local cafe. Despite promising to let Zowie provide all the smokes this evening, I did ask him a favour, that we could crack my RG PanX's, so I can smoke some of them whilst fishing over the next couple of weeks. As you can see, he kindly agreed. 18 months since my last one & as a starter smoke with a coffee, it was a refreshing smoke, Plenty of RG fav for cheap as chips money. Next we had a Los Statos deLuxe, Selectos, even longer gap since my previous one but really enjoyed this example with a beer. The finale, which we were both looking fwd to, a pair of Monte No5's from 94/95? Unfortunately this was a complete disappointment. My 2nd best cigar to date was a Monte No5 from the '70's, this had no real flav at all, let alone a Monte profile. No reflection on Zowie of course, he only picked them up recently; I can only surmise they had not been stored well over the yrs.
