I decided to smoke a cigar that a friend in the States sent me today, a Casa Fernandez Miami Reserva. Lovely label, looks good and smells delicious. It didn't start well when I punched it and the whole cap came off. The draw was like a wind tunnel and all I got from it was a mouthful of pepper. It soon got dumped and because I couldn't be bothered to go back indoors for a cutter I smoked an 80 cent La Aurora Principes corona that burned perfectly till the end.

Enjoy Sean! Talk about not smoking much...I've still not smoked since the 12th of Dec.

              Sunday 25th January 2015

Today I smoked an Arturo Fuente Exquisitos. It was a random purchase chucked in on my last mail order from CGars as I always like to try something new, plus Im on the search for cheaper short smokes for 'everyday' smoking. At a fiver it looked good and the reviews Id heard were promising.

I didn't pay any attention to the size and ring gauge so when it arrived next to the other cigars I thought the shop had chucked in a complimentary cocktail stick! At a fiver its not cheap for a tiny NC because its less than half the size of most Cubans that I smoke. Anyway Im digressing and its not all about size..

Smoked it today and here are initial thoughts. The cigar has a nice rustic appearance, well capped and the wrapper is loosely twisted over the head. Very well formed. Nicely labelled and cello packaging.

Smooth and easy pre light draw, nothing revealed other than the sweetness in the lips from the maduro wrapper.

On lighting some real cocoa/caramel flavours coming through which developed nicely through the rest of the smoke. Lots of white smoke and a great consistent burn. Flavour didnt change a great deal other than a hint of spice later on but sweet cocoa flavours remained. Very enjoyable, similar in flavour to the Oliva G Maduro Belicosso.
25 minute smoke- would I buy again? Yes.

I was on a home measure for a kitchen on Tuesday & they had a load of pictures of Cuba on the wall. When we got chatting they offered to give me a cigar from their recent trip. They pulled out a box and handed me one. Looking forward to smoking it, it'll be my second Open Master. When they have their appointment i'll return the favour, just have to figure out what to give!

I am quite a fan of the Open Eagle at the moment, im not sure why people don't like them really. Think a box might be in order

Some lovely cigars there gentlemen, looking forward to joining myself soon.

Mark, heard very mixed reviews about Monte opens, but they are very much my price range, so I'm glad to hear that not only are they smokeable, but that they are nice!

I set fire to a JL2. It had about three years on it and was very tasty.

Oh! That reminds me. Bloody hell am I forgetful...

How is the JL2 after 3 years of age? I've had only 2 young ones and never enjoyed them as much as other robustos that exist out there. That's with most Juan Lopez I've had aside from the Ideales, actually...
