    Another Monte tonight..
    Open Junior.

    FullSizeRender 2.jpg

It was fine on our walk with the dog, burned evenly, very easy draw & a little peppery on the palate..

I'm quite liking the Open series, nice & smooth smokes. I found the Junior to be quite a bit peppery compared to the Open Regata.

I think I am destined never to enjoy the forum. The most luck I have is tapping away frantically at my iPhone, then plodding through a poor 3G connection. My laptop is grinding to a halt trying to access wifi through a VPN to get round the hotel's censorship of anything tobacco or alcohol related! I give up trying to browse, or catch up with what everyone's talking about, let alone say anything beyond what I've been smoking today.

                Anyway ...

... on with the CA Top 25 for 2013 with No.11, the Oliva Serie O Churchill. This is described as a "delicious [smoke], with a salty, earthy flavor punctuated by tasty dried cherries and hints of cocoa and cedar."

The unlit cigar had almost no smell at all, which I always find a bit odd, but it's got a nice firm construction. As if it was my first ever cigar, I made a bit of a mess of the cut, but the cold draw was fine, so not all bad.

Immediately on lighting, it's woody and there's a bit of leather. To my taste, it's also rather full flavoured from the off, so I'm wondering how it will develop. It's got a nice aroma too, so it's enjoyable 'bathing' in the smoke. Luckily, staying away from home means I get to sit in my room later and enjoy the lingering smell. My first impression is that this is going to be another great cigar.

                Oliva O Churchill.jpg

By the end of the first third, it starts to get a bit more intense. There's an occasional flavour which I can't really describe without it sounding awful, when in fact it fits perfectly with the whole taste of the cigar: it's kind of a charcoal taste, like on blackened barbecue food. There's a bit of pepper coming and going too.

The second third progresses straight on from the first. More woody tones and an intensifying leathery flavour. Later, I can taste something sweet, like burnt caramel. Again it's very subtle and I'm amazed I pick it up at all. It doesn't last forever, but it's just enough to add to the enjoyment.

I find the final third opening up with a bolder tannic taste which reminds me of strong black tea. I enjoy black tea, so this is another treat. There is a brief spell when the flavour gets very leathery indeed, but it smooths out and settles into something much richer and more balanced with the original woodiness for the final inch or so.

This cigar delivers plenty of smoke and it smells fantastic. I love aromatic smoke - that classic cigar smell, slightly sweet, earthy, woody - the kind of smell you follow down Oxford Street and decide you want to take up cigars yourself!

The emerging downside (well, not really a downside) with my journey through the Top 25 is that my list of must have cigars is growing rapidly. This is another boxworthy cigar. It's also affirming my obsession with cigars. Every great smoke is another tick in the box, that this is absolutely the best thing I could have chosen to do. If someone told me to wind down after work by doing nothing, sitting in the cold for anything up to 90 minutes, I'd laugh. Add a good cigar and reflecting on the day becomes a joy, whether that day was good or bad.

Thanks [emoji4] I know everyone's taste and experience differs, even with the same cigar, so I can only say how it's been for me. Glad it's a good read though.

I used to have one of those with a white dial and the same bullet/Rouleaux bracelet. Lovely watch.
