My palate as far as cigars goes is fairly basic, but I didn't get any ammonia coming through. Would be interested to hear how you get on, if you do go back to try one that's been resting for a while.

Not had one since April so 6 months could make all the difference

Judders, yours didn't have any ammonia left, I know this because you don't need to train your palate to spot it, it's in your face. 6 months is a long time on a fresh cigar & it's usually gone within a year of manufacture.

Thanks for clarifying Simon. I learnt something new today.

Onwards and upwards with the Fuente Fuente OpusX Super Belicoso, No.13 in CA's Top 25 for 2013. Unlucky for some?

Notes from CA include, this "cigar is among the world?s best full-flavored cigars, robust and leathery, with a strong backbone of spice leading to a complex and bold flavor."

I like this cigar, from it's very ostentatious band to the almost-blemish free wrapper. It has a good weight and feels well packed. However, I'll be honest, it's been a rubbish day, starting with cancelled trains and delays, taking 5 hours to do a 3 hour journey, and work has been unusually dull. So, I'm not sure there's a cigar out there which would disappoint!

Boy, is it leathery! From the start, it's got that taste. I'm still not sure if it's a flavour I like, but in this case I'll make an exception. That's not being charitable because I'm looking forward to a smoke. It's because there is a lot else going on. There's a wee peppery tingle on my tongue, and a hint of meatiness which comes and goes.

This isn't as smooth a cigar as the Oro on Friday and the leathery flavour is much more full on, but halfway it gets more creamy. The smoke smells gorgeous and there's that lovely spicy tingle which stays with me. There isn't a lot of progression in terms of variety: the cigar continues to develop in the same sort of vein. However, that's not a criticism in the slightest. It is a delicious smooth smoke which is impossible to put down.

I think/hope I've hit a bit of a good patch with the Top 25. Basically, this is another worthy cigar which I'd happily have again and again. In fact, if I had another, I'd have to go and smoke it now! After 2 amazingly good cigars, I'm enjoying the Top 25 adventure again and finding new cigars I'll go back to in future.

Hope so. There have been more hits than misses, but the last 2 have definitely been by far the best. It's been a good way to get into new cigars. Can't wait for the top slot - my determination to do it in order means the Monte 2s I've got at home have had to wait!

Do you want to bring #12 tomorrow or smoke as planned?

I did think about it. It's a big old stick. I'll have it with me anyway, plus a seasonal thank you for your hospitality. Looking forward to tomorrow [emoji4]

Had a Te Amo Mexico Blend Robusto this evening. It was a decent full bodied smoke
