I've returned to the CA Top 25 of 2013 and it's No.23 today. The Casa Magna Colorado Extraordinario apparently has "a serious leathery quality with plenty of sweet nougat and cocoa to balance the tannic leather. A bit of earth and spice add to the complexity."

I always think of cartoons when I see perfectos or figurados - the shape of the exploding cigars in Tom and Jerry, Bugs Bunny, etc.

It smelled truly delicious and luckily lit very easily, because my new lighter (which I thought I'd filled) managed about 20 fitful seconds before refusing to light any more. I would have been doomed if it went out, but the main issue was a very ragged burn. I still don't really know how to sort that out.

The most positive thing I can say is that I now appreciate leather as a taste in cigars. This had bags of it. I think it helps Luddites like me if a cigar has a very strong bias because I hope it'll help me spot the same taste in other cigars, even if it's more subtle.

Unfortunately I didn't really get anything else. The second third was not nice - very strong acrid tasting. I nearly abandoned it because of both taste and burn, but as I was about to chuck it, it became more pleasant and subtle. Nevertheless, I don't think this is a cigar I'll be trying again.

It was also the closest I've come to a nicotine overload. So far, it's not really happened to me in the way others have described. However, on this occasion, I did feel pretty wired, a bit light on my feet and not really able to concentrate - bit of an issue since I'm supposed to be working.

Sometimes if they seem a bit overpowering take you time with it and don't smoke it so quickly try and leave it for a good minute or two inbetween draws

That's possible - I didn't want it to go out so perhaps I was more gung-ho than normal. I didn't really notice it til the end when I got up and walked off!

Also, when it gets bitter or mineral in taste, purge it. Blow firmly back through the cigar making sure you have the other hand under the ash!

You'll be surprised how long a good cigar will sit quiet happily in an ashtray without going out

Just finished helping out at a local community firework display. Now time for a little HdM and some homemade sloe gin in front of the bonfire.
