Both stayed true all the way through the smoke. The '96 was lighter, more elegant, medium body, medium light strength. Vegital, floral with hints of butter and leather. The '01 was med full body and strength. More sweeter tobacco and more body. the '01 did not have the elegance of the '96 but probably better overall if better can be used to describe two very good sticks.
Interesting comparing two stick from (probably) different tobacco strains. The resemblance was clear but the gap was wider than the 5 years.

Elegance Monk. Have you been reading those books again? I think you may have to explain that to those of us who're more in the Mike Tyson school of cigar smoking.
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!
Dull an' dreary in this corner of Essex today .... inoffensive little smoke, nothing bad to say about it nor nothing particularly good. Bit of a traveller this CJ, got it in Waitrose last year, took it to Spain with me, brought it back and it's been in the humi until today .... could have stayed there really!

hmmm ...for me it is a quality of smoke that only really exists in fairly old and medium strength cigars. It allows subtle flavours to tickle ones pallet that would otherwise be masked by a fuller bodies / fuller strength cigar. I have heard that a lot of cigars that show these qualities are more secco focused in the blend.

Oh wow. 01>96. I hope that's just a dud overall.
Never had anything bad. Ever. With 92-97 year boxes.
ESPECIALLY with how much they're worth once it passes the '98 fine line.

Reason: My Bad!
Just a quick AF Curly Head in the garden today, wasn't really in the mood though.
Not in the Mood??? Then you just get in the Mood!*
Actually, it's the perfect time to smoke a curly head, IMO. But that's just me and anyone else who hates to waste money on a stick where were "not really in the mood."
