Tried a stick which came with my latest humidor. Never heard of if before a Cuesta Rey vintage belicoso No. 11
Its not awful but not brilliant, quite mild and not a lot of smoke. Seems quite well made but there is no resistance in the draw.
Bit of a bahhhhhh really. On plus note my Aldi java ground coffee is very nice :-)

Sorted out the lack of smoke issue, I dont think I cut enough of the cap off initially, gave it another snip and a lot more smoke coming through. Still very mild for first two thirds, and a very loose draw :-)

Looks good, I'm on the Aldi Columbian today. Taken a long weekend so might manage a smoke later, if I get my home brewing done.

What you got Brewing? I'm ordering a new kit in the next couple of days, going for the "Evil dog Double IPA"

I've got a Munton's Midas Touch on and I'm going to start a Woodforde Nelson's Revenge. Aiming to have a lighter beer for the Spring and something with a little more body for when I get bored. Hopefully both will have plenty of time to bottle condition this way.

Just a quickie today as my wife doesn't work Thursdays but popped out for an hour so had a RyJ Petit Julieta I had been given, surprisingly good for the size.

Today a LFdC Predilectos Tubulares from a Forum split and which I bought more for the tubes than any great expectation. Was a bit apprehensive as the last one I smoked was a bit dry, harsh and just raw tobacco tasting. This one however started sweet, smooth and refreshing and maintained that throughout the smoke. OK, it was one dimensional but a good one dimensional, and an enjoyable afternoons smoke from an oldish machine made. Cheers Dan!

Good tip there Matty, the benefit of torps is being able to clip it small to start with & cut more if required. To be honest I have been caught out before. I hate a loose draw so clip the minimal amount to start with but sometimes have strugglesd with a tight draw, until I realised I could cut it again.
Still in this case it helped the smoke but would have made the draw seem even looser. Bit of a catch 22 mate.

Simon when I re cut the cigar the improvement was immense, but then I was angry with myself for not doing it sooner lol. The pyramides defeat my laying the cutter on the table to get just the right amount technique lol

my local homebrew shop is now doing full mash kits, all in a big 4 foot plastic sleeve all the hops/barley and grain you need to make what's on the label, so no more trying to figure out how much of each you need, haven't tried a full mash kit yet but im sooo sorely tempted.
only problem I have is the rapid chill to fix the sugars..

                    off to the homebrew forums

Have a crack at a one gallon batch in a big stock pot on the hob, you can make a decent immersion chiller from thin gauge flexi copper pipe.

One gallon batches are also great for trying new recipes and experimenting.

                      Edit: along these lines.
