To celebrate not having to see my Dentist again until July .... a deliciously woody Bolivar Tubos No 2. Not sure about the age, but the band was the 2002 deleted Standard 'A'. Was getting colder and grimmer by the minute outside but the Boli was a nice treat.

Newbee's. Don't be beguiled by the pretty tubes and cedar wrapper. The Boli Tubos 2 is as trustworthy as the Taliban, she's a nicotine nuclear time-bomb primed to go off anywhere between half-way and the final third and will send you reeling earless into A&E if you treat her with disrespect .... an RyJ Cazadores is gentle by comparison!

You smoked outside Tippexx?! I huddled in my garage for an hour and a half with the fan heater on (Southern softy) and smoked a Red Dot Cohiba Puro Dominicana robusto and; sacrilege, it was great! Back to work tomorrow so no more smokes till next Friday.

that, coupled with the word "bomb" on the site will sure to raise some flags

but seriously, i go for the cheaper, non tubed version of this cigar: the bolivar petit corona. i think this is just the same difference between the monte petit tubos and the monte 4.... how have you found the variations arf??

I've seen it written that the tobacco used for the Boli PC is better than that used for the Tubos 2, but personally I don't believe it is, I think they're the same. But to answer your question you really have to compare like for like. If you took a PC and a Tubos of similar age, everything about the Tubos is marginally more intense, the most obvious being the woodiness in the taste concequenced by the cedar wrapper.

The same is true, but not quite so apparent with the Monte 4 and Monte Petit Tubos. But a cigar to try where the difference between the Tubos and dress version is significant is the Bolivar RC, the tube version wins every time IMO.

And for an outstanding tubed cigar, try a Monte Tubos .... it's one excellent smoke!

I went to a mates house to drink some of the real ale home brew he had made and took a couple of cheeky Partagas Serie D No 4's, added bonus was we smoke in his kitchen.

I was not that impressed with the no 4 tho , I had high expectations and felt a little let down. It lit well and was very nice for a few smokes, however it went out after about 10 mins, and had to be re-lit a further 3 times. My mate had the same problem with his, the taste was fairly pleasant but it did not produce the vast amounts of smoke I was expecting.

The beer was good tho

I don't think they will be going back on my to buy list ,

I normally swear by the Monte Petit Tubos whilst the no.4 is very meh for me
Another awesome one is the RYJ Churchill tubos. Great with 3 years on its back.
Oh and punch tubos. Really mellows out any harshness

Hmmmm never thought of any difference between the tubed/non tuned variations. Got a box of non tubed earlier this year.
Same goes with some 07, 09, and 12 Monte tubos . Kinda wanna smoke em all within a week to check on their ageing potentials.

Your not the only one disappointed with the Party D No4 in recent yrs Matty, the volume made is too much for the quality of leaf required for it's older profile.
I am afraid the weather beat me today. Having managed to get off the rig, having done another Chrimo/New Yr combo, I was really looking fwd to a fine smoke with a beer or three. It was 9oc on the deck of the rig (as it was in Anwerp today when I got home) but by the time we got into Aberdeen, it was blowing a hoollie & 3-4oC. The heaters were still down at the School house & I just couldn't be bothered to survive rather than enjoy my precious sticks. Will look for an escape tomorrow or Mon & try & nip down the cafe with something appropriate.
