I was very tempted by these in Robert Graham today. Looked and smelt fantastic. Decided to get a monte No1as I really fancied a lonsdale sized smoke this evening. Be interested to know your opinion as other factor in my decision was a terrible experience with a Rafael Gonzales Petit Corona which was, and still is the only time I have given up on a cigar before the halfway mark. Havent revisited the brand since.

Some nice looking smokes there gents!
I've just finished my first AF Shortstory which I bought awhile back after seeking recommendations for short smokes in here.

It was a delight, Cant recall who suggested it, but sir, I salute you!

Glad you liked it, they are a fabulous smoke.

The boli gigantes I sacrificed was glorious and lasted a good 1 & 3/4 hours, paired with a bottle or two of Fortyniner beer and some teriyaki salmon from the bbq.

Funnily enough, my first experience of the RG marque was the Petit Corona - I too found it a truly hideous cigar. I had two: the first was just awful, and the second one, like yourself, I had to chuck). If you're tempted by the RG Coronas Extra again, go for it, don't let the PC put you off, two incredibly different cigars in my book.

Loverly freshly rolled Laguito No 1 from the roller collected from Davidoff on Friday followed by a Siglo IV at a fantastic bbq in rural kent, nice day out.

I'm with you and Simon on recent PC's...had a couple of very disappointing experiences, however, back in '08 I smoked a few which blew me away; kind of cigars you wake up craving the next day and can't get out if your mind for days after, so no idea what happened

But give the CE a go...it's a late morning/afternoon smoke really; this one was 48hrs out of the retailer, pure chocolate cream at the start and developing some woody, grassy flavours further in, burning perfectly through to the nub. The aromas are enticing and elegant, one of the key elements of good RG' s...(but sadly not current PC'S!!)

                        Thanks for that.

They sound great. They certainly looked and smelt the part.

Think I will give them a try, maybe Thursday when I next visit the shop.

                        The PC I tried was a 2004. I smoked it(well, attempted to) in 2005.

It was such a shame as i remember it was a fantastic looking cigar with a lovely dark and oily wrapper.

I was looking forward to smoking it so much but managed to resist for 6 months.

Maybe thats why it left such a bitter taste in my mouth(literally)

Guess its time to give RG a chance again.

Is intersting that both you and Dimon have had similar experiences.

Sorry to revive an old thread.......but I went for one of these Thursday evening as I had an hour or so before the tasting I was at started.

                              I really enjoyed it.

Quite s mild smoke but with a nice amount of chocolatr coming through and some nice creamy smoke.

Pleased to say after previous experience wiyh this brand that construction and draw were perfect.

                              Very impressed.

                              Thanks for the recommendation Dave.
