Slummed it tonight ! A friend brought me a box of 50 Sumatran (yes - Sumatran) smokes. 5.5" with a 38 ring gauge. Machine made, of course. No substitute for the real thing but, surprisingly, an enjoyable taste for about two thirds of its length by which time it was discarded before spoiling the entire experience. Obviously ideal for giving to the less well educated smoking guests. Off to the shed for a Cohiba Robusto to restore my faith in cigar smoking.
David, interesting - one of the best non-Cubans I have ever tasted (in fact, one of the finest cigars I have ever smoked, full-stop) was made with a Sumatran wrapper and binder. It was a hand-rolled, long leaf, cigar though, so not quite the same, but just thought it was an interesting thing to note...
