Smoking an Oliva Serie V double robusto. I LOVE these, one of my favourite NCs.

I think I've seen that website before... But where?
A cigar is not measured by its cost - It is measured by how much it burns your fingers

They're a cracking smoke...up there with a lot of Cubans IMO. Enjoy

I agree mate. The construction quality is fantastic, and lots of flavour.

Yeah they get high marks from me because they seem to be able to combine plenty of flavour with perfect consistency (I've never had a poorly constructed one). A lot of Cubans have plenty of flavour but inconsistent construction, and a lot of NCs are very consistent but tasteless. With the Oliva V series you get the best of both!

You've hit the nail on the head there.

So many Cubans that I love, there are quite a few times when the roll is either too tight or too loose, which is frustrating because I know it's an awesome cigar that I love, but the consistency of construction has let it down.

But like you say, the Oliva is consistent and reliable. You know what you're gonna get and it always delivers.

For some reason though I didn't fall in love with the G series...They're not bad (and do I love the look of the Maduro wrappers and the box pressing), but they didn't make me go 'wow'. I'm expecting a Cain by Oliva Torpedo in a package with a few NC singles in the post (should be here tomorrow with any luck), and I can't wait to see how it compares to the series V.

Yeah I used to be in love with the G, but that was when I was quite new to cigars. Now the G jus seems a bit tasteless to me.

I've heard good things about the Cain, let us know how you find it.

Will do mate...apparently the Cain is about 82% ligero leaf so it might just kick my arse! Must remember to have a good meal first if I don't want to feel like this

The first Serie V i smoked completely kicked me on my arse! Didn't help that I smoked it on a morning. Now I smoke them after a big meal and they're perfect.

                    Gotta love that ligero

I agree with the Oliva V Series, great smoke. I've had a couple of the Cain F Double Robustos (ring gauge 60) and been very impressed. But a good meal first is a must, they are a big powerful cigar! Nothing like sitting out all evening on the terrace with a big double robusto

Molecularstudent, I'm curious to hear your opinions on how the Cain compares to the V series. The V series seems to be very popular, but I've read mixed reviews about the Cains. Some people seem to love them, and others say that they have a lot of strength but not much flavour. I guess I'll find out for myself when I receive this package, but its always interesting to find out what others think.

I have really enjoyed the Cain F's which I've had, I mean they don't have as much flavour as some of the big brand Cubans but are still a very pleasant experience. I usually get one of each and sit out on the terrace with a friend.....lasts most of the night! I'd be interested to hear what you think of them. I'm a bit worried about the one I have in the humidor at the moment....it is incredibly hard, almost like bamboo....not like the others I have had which were nice and supple...

Sounds good...I like a cigar that lasts a while (as long as the weather is good, in winter I'm more of a petit corona man). The Cain that I'm expecting through the post is a torpedo rather than a double robusto (I think that it's 6 inches with a 54 ring guage), but it should still take a decent amount of time to smoke. I'll let you know what I think when I've smoked it - here's hoping for some good weather!
