Partagas Series D No 5
Ouch! Not impressed with this one, construction looked ok but felt particularly loose at the foot and the first draw proved this to be the case, far too easy draw, terrible as this only added to the bitter ammonia flavours, and quite a lot of burn problems in the first half...
These really need a lot of time! There were some signs that they could turn around, some sweet cedars and even hints of dark chocolate at the halfway mark but I had to dump it with about a third left as the ammonia became overwhelming, all I can say is I persevered as long as I could!
With a lot of luck that could be the black sheep construction wise in the box and I will revisit, probably in about 6 months, but if these are going to become anything worth having, let alone great, we could be talking letting them rest for 1/2/3 years, who knows!?
Sadly I can't recommend them as is but if you're a real Partagas fan maybe get a box but with the knowledge you might have to keep them for some time before they become something you really want to reach for when you open the humi!
