And then this evening, I used the band to make myself a gorgeous shaving brush in Thuya Burl wood as a momento of a great cigar. Pretty rare wood that isn't easy to obtain, but it is naturally cigar coloured. The neat thing about the Robaina band is that it has the gold "R" (for Rod), and 1845 (and my birth year is 1945).
About a dozen coats of cured acrylic. Then sanded smooth and polished. Quite thick so you can't feel the cigar band. It waterproofs the wood totally, and for good.
