  • Samplers or finders?

I'm looking to get more into whiskey but to be honest buying a whole bottle just to find out I don't like it isn't appealing.

Do any sites do samplers like you get for cigars? I'd love to buy 10-20 miniatures of different brands to sample them.

Also, does any sites do taste profiles so you can easily search different brands by taste?

    Thanks!

    Try Masters of Malt HERE

A mate has used them and they appear to have a decent range.

It may not help but if your ever anywhere near Bakewell in Derbyshire I suggest you visit The Wee Dram. They always have a variety of bottles open for you to sample and their knowledge is extensive.

Cgars does a bunch, and I've had a few off of them (usually my Dad buys them for my birthday or whatever).

www.Malts.com Register as a friend & they will send you a taste map.

Loch Fyne Whiskies at www.LFW.co.uk have their own taste codes on the stock lists derived from this map which is available in their Introducing LFW brochure.

A good way to try a variety of whiskies is to attend a tasting event.
There are a number coming up across the Country over the next few months.

If you can stay sober enough it is possible to try a lot of whisky. Spitting is encourged.

Some events (Whisky Live) work on a voucher system - you get some vouchers with your entry ticket and can buy more if you need them, each whisky has a voucher value.

Other events offer tasting without the vouchers - Glasgow Whisky Festival (Nov), Whisky Fringe (Aug), Whisky Lounge (various dates and locations) have a look here for Whisky Lounge events:

Ed, the owner of Whisky Lounge, is running a number of events that are well worth a visit.
They are informal exhibition type events rather than tutored tastings.
Ed also offers masterclasses for those who want something extra.

Whilst I do know Ed from attending a few of his events in the past I am in no way connected to The Whisky Lounge.

I'll be in Glasgow next weekend (3rd Sept) for Whisky Live Glasgow, then in York on 17th Sept, Leeds on 12th Nov and back in Glasgow for the Whisky Festival on 19th Nov.
Might do a blog after each one to tell people what goes on and what was on offer.

                  John

This site offers a large range of minatures CLICK I've been looking for a cheaper whisky for my mid week smoke and bought some Glenfiddich minatures from Sainsburys to try with my H.Upmann Coronas major.

Edit: The Glenfiddich was ok but it just doesn't measure up compared to a Balvenie portwood. I'm just going to stick to buying Balvenie now since I could've bought another bottle instead of trying out all of the those other malts.
