I think I've found a new whisky edging towards the top of my most wanted list... Lagavulin 16yo.

Was at a dinner on Saturday and decided to stick to the whisky in the bar afterwards. I decided to give the Lagavulin 16yo a try, as I didn't remember having tried it before. Aside from being pleasantly surprised at the price (well, for a hotel anyway), I was bowled over by how good it was. Lovely smoke, peat and iodine on the nose, and just as delicious to drink. I bought a round of them, it went down so well everyone else stuck to it for the evening too.

Decided to look for a bottle online, was quite pleased to see it came in around the ?40 mark... Have to say, given how good it was, I was expecting another five to ten quid on top of that. Certainly on the Christmas wish list now.

I adore Lagavulin, you can't really go wronf with them.

Try the Distillers Edition, it's spent a little time in a sherry cask so has a few sweet notes in amongst the peat and smoke. It's the whisky we had at our wedding.

Excellent choice Simon, none of the Lagavulins stay on the bar that long the 16 especially! I rate them alongside the Aberlour a'bunhadh for a great tipple!

I am big fan of Lagavulin too, and it is available in Asda and Tesco for a few pence over ?40.00 if you did not want to wait and order it via the Net. I prefer the smokey and peaty characteristics of the Islay malts, and my other big favourite is Ardbeg (in any of its forms!). Laphroaig is a favourite too, but does not have the underlying sweetness of Lagavulin in my opinion.

Lagav' 16 is a classic. Hard to find a better bottle for the money (? 42€ here in France).
In the same range (slightly cheaper), I like the Ardberg 10 as well.

I've just lit the fire but I've got to run my daughter out to see her Grandfather shortly, then I'm coming home and having a dram, what a fine idea on a cold night.

Is that a bottle of 'Brasso' in the background?

Have you never had a Negroni?

                      1 measure gin
                      1 measure Campari
3/4 Martini Rosso or Brasso if you prefer
                      Twist of Orange peel
                      Shaken with ice

One of my personal favourites Simon, although it can sometimes be difficult to get hold of a bottle. Delicious stuff.
