depends on the ol' fella's taste. there's a speyside for the mild pallette and an islay for the hardcore. plenty of aged examples in that price range. find out what he prefers 1st mate
A flavour map may help. For example, the Clynelish 14 is right in the middle and really nice, albeit below your price range. I have heard the Glenmorangie Nectar D'or is great. According to the map, if it is anything like the 10, it should be like the Clynelish but lighter?
Perhaps someone knows of a flavour map with the more exclusive malts?
hey deano,
there's plenty of mentions for scotch single malts, what about irish? bushmills 16year old is a smashing, easy to drink single malt (for your info, it goes great with cigars)....... as is the 1608 400th anniversary blend!!! quality stuff indeed.....
May I suggest The Bruichladdich 15 year old. Now this is an Islay Malt which are traditionally peaty/iodine more hardcore, but this particular one is a lot more subtle. Lovely and complex yet not at all harsh. Better still, come round the Prince one night and we will try a few!
Oh Campbletowns are ok, but is your going for single, scottish malt, it has to be islay.
Someone also mentioned bunahabhain, which im a big big fan off, but what about Jura ? Origins is a lovely, rather cheap malt but how about:
