  • Rhum Rum Rhum

I've just been looking back at some old threads and realised that it's been nearly 10 years now since I started the Whisky Whiskey thread
So as that has been successful I thought I should start the Rhum Rum Rhum to post all things Rhum. I am sure there are many of us who like whisky have also many bottles of Rum that we drink and also collections

So, with that said, let's get posting our Rum favourites notes and collections

I would like to say that my particular preferences are

    1. Diplomatico
    2. El Dorado
    3. Flor de Cano
    4. Pyrat
    5. St Teresa & Plantation rums

    And many others

    Photos to follow tomorrow

Not tried that many rums, but the ones that I've particularly enjoyed are Havana Club Ron Seleccion de Masestros, El Dorado 15 & Ron Zacapa 23. A special mention goes to Watsons, a rum originating in Aberdeen - great with a dash of coke and ice for a quick drink in the pub.

Funny thing I was thinking there could be a rum version of the whiskey thread recently & here it is!

Not tried some of those mentioned above, will check them out. From my own limited experience with rum I would mention enjoying:

      Diplomatico
      Foursquare
      Coruba
      Plantation
      Appleton

Looking forward to seeing what others like.

Have a bottle of Havana Club 7 in the basket waiting for the next order.

I too have thought about starting a similar thread.. and hey presto!

Again not many i recognise from that list.. but that is probably my poor taste!

I like both a rum on the rocks - something like a Mount Gay (various varieties) - but I also like a Cuba Libre with Havana Club Especial, 7 or Duppy White.

I will look out for Diplomatico and some of the others as you guys are recommending them!

I’ll add Bumbu to the mix. Usually around £30 on Amazon.

When we went to St Lucia the local Distillery offered a tour and at the end we had free reign to sample 18 different Rums. We came away with their local "Admiral Rodney" and "Bounty" which were incredible tasting for such a cheap price.

Diplomatico for the win for me too.

was disappointed at a Plantation xo I bought last year.

Plantation is good for cocktails, Mai Tai & Pina Colada being recent favourites. Not tried the XO though

I'm a rum newbie but interested to learn more about good pairings with cigars. First, does it have to be Cuban? I've heard good things about Diplomatico (including here) and that's Venezuelan, I know; or doesn't the geography bit matter at all? Also, can I assume there are a range of strengths and flavours with rums as there are with cigars or, say, do you never put a rum with either a mild or a strong cigar as one (the rum or the cigar) will come off second best. On the basis that a mere rum will never upstage a Belicosos Finos (!), what's the recommended pairing with one of those (seems like a good place to start). So many questions...

Giving this a try today and I'd recommend it. Not too cloying or sickly sweet.
