Bordeaux wine

Hey guys ....sorry for the random question...I know we have a few wine connoisseurs

Looking to get a client a bottle of Bordeaux...wanted to spend approx £100 anyone recommend anything worth getting don't want to get anything crap

Can’t help with a £100 bottle but my favourite Bordeaux is the Chateaux Talmont from ASDA for £5.50 a bottle. Very good and very cheap.
I’ll leave the really good expensive suggestions to someone else.

I’d go into a Berry Bros store and speak to them. Personally I don’t think you can go wrong with a St Emilion. Price range varies greatly. But for a ton you should get a very decent bottle. I Generally would spend no more than £20 and wouldn’t bother with anything less than £6-7. Try asking Robustoclubhavana, I think that’s his handle, he’s fairly knowledgeable on the wine and spirits front.

Prices vary wildly depending on vintage.

Leoville Barton, any Bordeaux fan will love this. Probably needs at least another 5 years before it is drinking well though.


If you want to go a bit older the 2009 or 10 vintages were considered exceptional, wine society have Chateau Batailley 2010 for £50. That is a good price if you are a member.

For 100£ you can get almost any very good claret (as it is called) even some with a few years on them.
I’d definitely go for a St. Julien wine, they’re the most approachable wines with no fuzz, just very good Cabernet Sauvignon. You should be able to pick up a Ch. Talbot or even one of the Leoville trio of which Las Cases is the top notch.
Pomerol will bring you into a messy territory with a maze of boutique and expensive stuff, so I wouldn’t go there. Just my 2 pence.

Does anyone regularly pair certain wines with cigars? - random I know - but the last time I had a Cohiba Silgo 2 and a Cohiba Petit Robusto it went very well with a glass of Italian red - I think a Barolo and then a Barbera.. probably my favourite beverage to have with a cigar so far - I find coffee gets cold too quickly..

Invest in a thermos mug, only around £15 and makes having a coffee with a cigar in the winter possible
