Gin and tonic and cigars...

After three or four goes I have come to the conclusion that, for me anyway, a G&T don't go with a cigar. I love a Gordons and tonic on a lovely summer's day, but it leaves such a strong taste in the mouth I find it clashes with a cigar.
Is this just me? Now, a Havana Club and fresh orange is just the business.
Must get round to making a Mojito this weekend too. Never made my own before...


Best I've ever had were at Annabel's nightclub in London (thank god I wasn't paying) and in South Beach, Miami.

I'll agree to disagree. Nothing better than a pint of gin and tonic with a cigar after a long day at work although i'll admit if i'm having strong tasting food or drink it has to be with a strong cigar. Although G&T does leave a taste in the mouth i find it to be a refreshing palette cleanser. The sharpness of the citrus tends to over power most cigars but it all depends what mood you are in i suppose.

Gentlemen, with summer threatened to start any day now I feel it is beholden on me to head out and get hold of as many different types of gin as I can lay my hands on and get stuck in to the serious research for the good of the forum.

My humidor bulges and reeks so I am heading to the Off Licence....... I may be some time!!!

yep im jumping on the agreement bandwagon here i do like a bombay sapphire and tonic anyday of the week and dont find any disagreements when i pair it with a smoke

I love a G&T but not with a cigar. Sloe gin on the other hand....wowza. I think sloe gin has accompanied most of my cigars. Has to be Gordon's though....unless anyone has recommendations of other brands?!?!

I recently enjoyed a martini made with Citadelle Gin.

A most excellent martini, IMO. Enjoyed it with a Bolivar RC.

Gordons, dear christ. Bombay Saphire as a BARE MINIMUM. Next rung up the ladder would be Hendricks. Top, or near to the top, would be Tanqueray Ten, great floral gin made with fresh botanicals unlike all other gins. A lot can also be said for Millers Gin, if you can find the Westbourne Strength variant, which is rare, then your mouth will love you forever. The Westbourne and Tanqueray Ten can be supped straight.

My sentiments exactly! It has been a long time since I have had a gin and tonic, but this thread makes me thirsty for a few and I never drink without a cigar. I think I will have to smoke a Trinidad Coloniales with it though. For some reason I think that will be a good combo.
