who knows, i especially find it with beers on tap but even bottles just dont have the same quality of taste. i often see erdinger on tap in pubs and am tempted but its not a patch on beer on the continent.

i go climbing mountains in austria and at the top of many of them you'll find a little guesthouse that does home-made food, and copious amounts of beer and obstler. that first pint of weissen at the top of a 1700m mountain in the blazing sun... its to die for. of course the beer tastes better there than here after a walk round the park or down to the shops


a lot of drinks dont really work well in other countries, fell in love with limoncillo in madrid, bought a bottle back and it tasted like cats pee over here in rainy britain.

that actually reminds me of a bacon smoked german beer i tried once.
overpoweringly strong taste of bacon. made me want to wretch... but maybe a good hair of the dog, cutting out the need for a fry-up

Now that the weather is getting warmer in the UK (or at least the sun is shining) I find myself moving from the warming spirits of winter to beers and ciders of summer. I wasn't into cigars last summer and just wondered if anyone has any suggestions for a nice niche beer or cider to accompany a fine cigar or two on a warm summer?s day. I'm particularly into organic cider at the moment from the New Forest but I?m thinking the fruity kick might overwhelm the delicate flavours of a mild cigar.

POsted this up last October, and definately worth a try, although I haven't paired it up with a cigar...


"My wife and I were out for a meal last week celebrating my birthday and I had a glass of this Nice lager . Although it was a restaurant, I thought this would go well with a cigar, for future reference. It was light and a bit 'zingy'. The bottle stated it was made with the same yeast as Champagne, although there's no mention of that on the website. Nice drop"
