  • Looking for a good aged rum...

My mainstay rum is appleton reserve, but I am looking to get a really nice bottle for christmas to go with my fast-expanding stogie collection.
Although a lot of bottles you can get in uk may be harder for me to purchase in Canada with our screwy liquor laws, suggest away!

P.S. It has to be at least as good as Bacardi White...LOL.

Quite cheap if you're looking at very decent rum, but my standard is 7 year old Havana Club.

If you're looking for something in the ?40 range try Havana Club Barrel Proof - very nice.

          Both.

Both the HC or the Barrel proof are as good as I have tasted.Would not look past either of them.

All suggestions thus far are really good rums.

Don't forget that when comparing the aging of rum with that of whisky, due to the climate, rum ages approximately three times as fast as a whisky. Therefore you could expect 7 years to have a similar developmental effect as a 21 year old Scotch. (Was informed of this by a someone in the rum business).

However, they taste very different, so whether the specifics of the aging process are actually relevent, I don't know...

PS. The El Dorado 12yo is very good too. It's from Guyana. I quite like these rums from the very south and east of the Caribbean, slightly different taste, and often quite sweet.

Have you tried "rhum agricole" from the french Caribbean? Very distinct from the others. I would recommend the Cl?ment vieux (3 years) or the older vintages of "Rhum J.M." or those of "La Favorite"

Nothing beats a "ti punch*" in the afternoon on the patio listening to the Caribbean sea waves with your favorite stoogie

*White rhum, ice, squeezed lime, sugar cane or syrup.

not much of a rum connoisseur, but angostura 1919 from trinidad&tobago is pretty damn tasty; also just under ?20.

+1 on the Zacapa 23, I also recommend Ron Millionario which can be had as a 15 year, and Ron Pampero Aniversario in the leather pouch is also a great rum ..
You may think you can fly, but you better not try ..

I also want to start to pair rum with cigar as it's getting cold so coke with cigar is no more an option for me!
