If you ever get the chance then try the older bottlings.
Best "bang for buck" is 18 year; huge step up from 12.
21 and 25 are very very good, also 30, although I'm not sure they're that much better than the 18.
I was lucky enough to have a dram (or was it two?) of the 40 year old, now THAT is exceptional!
"By the cigars they smoke, and the composers they love, ye shall know the texture of men's souls."John Galsworthy "A good Cuban cigar closes the door to the vulgarities of the world." Franz Liszt "The most futile and disastrous day seems well spent when it is reviewed through the blue, fragrant smoke of a Havana Cigar." Evelyn Waugh "Remember, commander, no cigars before launch."a Cuban doctor's orders to an astronaut at Cape Canaveral

What do you guys think of the 16 yo? I find it quite disappointing compared to the 18 yo. Never had the 25 and 30 yo yet, something more to try
I was in Tobermory (Isle of Mull) during the summer and they had a whisky tasting in the tourist office. There was a beautiful 25 year old Balvenie and when I asked the price, I was told ?65. The gut said to me, "I see you like your whisky!" When I asked him how he knew, he told me that when he told me the price, I didn't even blink! Got to say that i bought a bottle and it sits along with my Uigeadail (Ardbeg) for special occasions!
No man has the right to fix the boundary of a nation.
No man has the right to say to his country, "Thus far shalt thou go and no further."

Agree with that Michael, the 18yo is superb stuff indeed.

Never tried the 25yo, but I have tried 20yo and it is great stuff.

I imagine that your prices for scotch are much better in the uk, being that it comes from there. It costs us canadians too much.
Highland park 12 is one of my mainstays. I prefer it to The Macallan 12 and it's $25 cheaper. I have yet to try the 18. With my birthday and christmas looming, I shall put in a request!
I actually prefer the 12 YO to either the 15 or 16, and though the 18 is good, it's not ?40 per bottle better. I've tried the 25 and 30 too (though never had a full bottle of either) and yes, they were good, but again, the hike in the price is huge for what you get.
I'd like to try the Hjarta (is that right?) special edition, to see what that's like and I do like to shock myself every now and then by checking out the prices online of some of the older bottles and specials. I heard there was a 50 Y/O to be bottled this year - not sure if that ever came about?
Bought a bottle this evening after remembering the tasting notes in the 'File'. Nice drop indeedy. I've often looked at it after reading this thread, but tonight took the plunge. Chin, chin
A fine bottle...
My favourite is the 15yr old though. That and the 16 are a much lighter taste than the peaty 12/18/21/25. Personal preference though!
I visited there last year, wonderful place!
