    I don't know if it is just me, but I just don't understand why would you drink rum with coke??? unless you are on the beach in Greece and it is 1024 degrees hot!

    I prefer the havana club anejo 7y old, no bloody coke and no bloody ice to mess up in my glass!

    sailor jerry has got its own specific sweetness, too much sometimes

      I was once told that the only thing you should add to rum, apart from ice, is more rum

        Just like good malt, the only thing to add is "an t'uisge," and more malt....

          I love rum, down it goes, down in my belly.

          Since being forced to stop drinking whiskey by the quacks I've found a real affinity with rum although like crslaytor I wouldn't mix it with Coke. If it's a hot day or I'm looking for a long drink as opposed to a sipping drink I'll mix it with lemonade/soda water and a twist of lime.

          My four personal favourites are;
          Sailor Jerry Caribbean Spiced Rum
          This rum has a really strong vanilla element to it that is even more apparent when taken with a mixer but adds a good level of sweeetness to it when drunk straight or with a twist. Although it's quite unique it's most similar brethren is probably Morgan's Spiced which is a good substitute if it's unavailable.

          Ron Mulata de Cuba A?ejo Reserva
          This rum is fairly strong tasting yet smooth. If I were going to drink any of these four rums with Coke it would be this one as it's got a kind of spicy cocoa type feel to it that I think would work well. Out of the 2 Cubans listed here this is definitely the one with the bigger kick.

          Mount Gay Rum - Extra Old
          I first got into Mount Gay rum after a colleague found out I could no longer drink whiskey and brought me a bottle back from her native Barbados. This is a great rum that is woody and smooth but can be a bugger to get hold of!

          Legendario Elixir de Cuba 7 A?os
          This is not strictly speaking a true rum but it is so sweet you can drink it by the glassful and it is a great compliment to a Monte No.4. This definitely doesn't need a mixer due to it's easily drunk flavour!
