Dalmore Cigar Malt, does it live up to the hype?

Hi all,

Some of you may have noticed me snapping up what I can get in terms of cigars lately. Due to extremely fortunate circumstances an annual bonus landed in the bank this month so like any good hobbyist I've endeavoured to spend it all on things I love in as short a time frame as possible.

Now I've filled my tuppadors up, I need a good single malt to stick in the decanter and a favourite distillery of mine is Dalmore. I've had the 12 year, I've had the 15 year, and now I want to try the next. I've heard great things about the Cigar Malt but I'm wondering how it differs from the standard line and if it's worth buying over say an 18 year? I won't always be burning a stick while I drink it so I'm curious about how it does on it's own.

Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated.

I'm not a whisky drinker and ive not tried other Dalmore range. But I've tried the Cigar Malt in LCDH Krakow recently and it was nice rich warming and smooth! Too rich for me as I'm not into whisky.

I've also tried the cgars cigar malt recently, there are rumours its made by Dalmore... worth a try.

I've not had the dalmore one...was a bit pricy for me...so bought the The Corriemhor Cigar Malt and that seemed to go great with cigar

It is really not half bad. It's not as sweet as the rest of the Dalmore range. Worth getting a bottle just so you know.

Still a little sweet if you are a Islay guy.

Personally I haven't tried any of the 'cigar' whiskies, they always seem just to catch the 'Cohiba' flashy mob but the only whisky I can't drink with a cigar are the smokey, peaty ones; for me they overpower the cigar.

I'm not exactly a connoisseur of whisky but I'll try and write a review of the Dalmore Cigar malt when I taste it on Friday. Just in case anyone has the same question and stumbles upon this thread.

I'll second the shout for Corriemhor Cigar Reserve Malt, its not too sweet and is a good cigar whisky.

If you want a sweet rich malt to go with a cigar just look for PX cask and sherry cask malts, Glendronach 12 is a good one for this.

I've tried it, its not bad but cant help feeling they slap an extra ?20 on the price because it has the word cigar in it. Not a huge fan of single malt myself but there is better out there for the price, but I think rum or bourbon pairs nicer with a cigar.

At the risk of lowering the tone, I tried the Jamesons Stout Cask edition recently and, even as a single malt enthusiast, found it had a great coffee/chocolate quality that is perfect for a cigar whiskey. Easy on the pocket too.

I've not tried the Dalmore but in my experience all of the named distillery malts are great in there own way.

I had wondered about the Jamesons new range - might have to give the Stout Cask a go

I'm not a whisk(e)y drinker, but - based on recommendations here - I got myself a bottle of Redbreast for Christmas; works well with a cigar.
