It was a half bottle, but whisky exchange still lists 35cl at more than eighty quid. I've had a sip, and it's fabulous!

It is. I think I paid ?110 for a full bottle of the XO Excellence at duty free a couple of years ago. That gives you an idea of the lower end of the price scale. You did very well indeed.

The 70cl bottle comes up fairly frequently on an Amazon Lightning Deal, around ?80

I decided to treat myself to a decent Cognac just before Christmas. I've had a VS before and thought it was ok but but thought I'd pop into the great local independent wine shop near me to get something a little better.

My budget was ?50 but unfortunately they had sold out of the 50 quid stuff. After sampling a few cognacs and taking advice, I went a little bit silly and paid ?106 for this Maxime Trijol XO. It was one of those spur of the moment things I regretted once driving away from the shop! Well my regret was short lived when I sat down in front of the wood burner with a warm cognac in a proper cognac glass. For me this stuff is stunning and it will be a regular in my drinks cabinet from now on, I just wish it wasn't quite so expensive!
