Rum and sugar content

A friend of mine works in the drinks industry and has been researching rum for an upcoming project. We got talking about rum and cigars and while I knew quite a lot of rums contained added sugar to achieve the desired flavour profile, Iwas surprised to find out exactly how much can be added per litre.

It's quite a controversial subject amongst some aficionados as the blog post will show.

I've deliberately not looked at the sugar contents of drinks....I know I won't like what I see especially in whisky

Fear not, Sham, Whisky does not (or should not) contain sugar.

The links refer specifically to sugar added to the rum to obtain a certain flavour.

I understand there is sugar in lots of things and a lot more than you expect but I'm a believer in everything is fine in moderation and as part of a balanced diet.
