For those that like Rum, Diplomatico Reserva is currently a lightening deal on Amazon:

Can I ask, do any forum members have any experience of Barcelo rum? A work colleague (whose wife comes from the Dominican Republic) bought me a bottle back...

I like Bacelo, have had a couple of different bottlings none have been too offensive straight on the rocks.

In fact, the first time I got Trigeminal Neuralgia, drove to A&E at 03:00 suicidal with pain was dismissed as toothache and told to go home and have a whisky, drove to my parents so that I had someone who could give me a lift if I needed to head out after the drink, and promptly saw off a whole bottle of Barcelo, fond memories.

Having being a whisky drinker for the past ten years or so, I have recently discovered a real love of rum. Although I am yet to 'pair' with a cigar, I look forward to doing so when the opportunity presents itself. Any suggestions outside of what I already have (Havana Club Maestros, Plantation 20th Anniversary, Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva)?

I've got the Diplomatico Especial reserve which is nice but would like something more flavourful and less alcoholic tasting. What's the pineapple run like in your collection?

My favourite is the 12 to be honest, I find both the 15 and 21 too sweet for anything more than a single measure, although you know you?re drinking something special if you just have a small tot of the 21.

Another bottle of the 12 has just landed in my lap this morning. Needless to say it will not last long...

Sounds like this comes recommended? My New Years resolution is to drink more rum

It’s a lovely rum, slightly sweeter than most, but has a real beautiful smooth flavour. I also would recommend the Diplom?ticos Reserva and the Ron Zakapa XO - both firm favourites!

i look forward to reading how you get on with your Rum journey this year!

I would also suggest that with most rum you let it stand in your glass for at least 30 mins, I do find a little bit of air time does help open them up more!

I’ll give it a go, I used to drink a fair bit of rum but whisky has always been my drink of choice. I’ve never noticed that with rum, if it works with red wine then why not. Agree on the Diplomaticos, I’ve had a couple of bottles in the past and really enjoyed it. Never tried any of the El Dorado though. I always thought Angostura 1919 was a great drink for the money.
