Thought I'd add my two penneth worth.

I've basically worked my way down the Waitrose rum shelf over the passed couple of years, so nothing difficult to obtain (relatively), and things that are occasionally on sale.

I'd rate Havana Club 7 most highly as a delicious rum especially to be taken neat. Followed closely by Mount Gay Black Barrel (which is maybe ten pounds more expensive, but still a reasonable price to pay over its "regular" cousin, much like the Havana Club in fact). They're different but both pleasant.

My left field suggestion is Angostera 1919. It's pretty sweet but not in a molasses "burnt sugar" way, more a fruity almost mango sort of way.

I'd say that makes it unsuitable for pairing with any stick that's super mild, but it offers something that takes the edge out of anything getting very peppery. Or in the case of a JLP Petit Cetros I had recently, was/is salty like I was smoking a pork scratching.

With hindsight I've no idea if that level of saltiness is normal in any cigar, but it was definitely a new experience and the sweeter rum went quite well.

Enjoying this thread, rum is something I have never tried, but I will in the near future
Common sense is not a gift, it's a punishment as you have to deal with everyone who doesn't have it!

So over the weekend had a event at my mates house he bought some Captain Morgan Spice rum...so I decided to drink that on the rocks rather than my normal whisky....again for a newbie in the rum world that was really nice with some ice...I also tried it with a slice of lime which brought our some more flavour.

That's two from the long list of rums to try.
