Sorry Matt, I must have missed your question previously. Yes I do plan on adding a nice Rum to the collection in the near future.
My next purchase will be a Cognac though. I think I will give the Remy Martin Coeur de Cognac a shot first.

That Jura is a fine dram. The father in law brought a bottle over at xmas. It barely lasted past the 26th!

I did enjoy that Jura Jonny. When my stock depletes a little, I will probably try another from their range.

Thanks oskihen. It does sound like a decent bottle to start with. After trying that, I may give an XO a try.
I would be open to recommendations for a nice XO, and also any Rum that is worth trying.

Always loved malts, cognac and armagnac but really love my rum nowadays 7 yr old Havana clubs nice , like the angostura 1919 but aldi does a nice old rum can't remember the name atm it generally doesn't last long lol

I haven't tried the Balvenie yet Tommy. This will be a first for me.
A christmas present from my mother in law.
I am sampling the Old Pultney at the moment.

What do you think of the Old Pultney? It was on offer so Mrs Tommy got me a bottle which I have in my every day decanter. I'm not a fan honestly, it's not horrible but it's not very impressive either. I tend to think along the lines of this, if it's a 20 year old and has little to no bitterness from the wood it is excellently aged, if it's 10 years aged or under and has some of the bitterness that the wood can give it I would consider it badly aged. I've not been drinking whisky long but I've been a brandy fan for a while and I've tinkered with stills and ageing spirits, in my limited experience it's that bitter note which is undesirable in wood aged drinks that often lets whiskies down. I have a 24 year old sherry cask aged whisky which is sweet, Woody and packed with sherry flavour yet it's light of colour and isn't syrupy and has not a bit of bitterness. It's the best drink I've had hands down and sadly I have maybe two nips left. I would pay good money for something that comes close to it but so far nothing has. The best bottle I currently have is a Glenfarclas but even that at nearly ?100 isn't as good as the 24 year old unknown. Whisky has me thoroughly hooked, if anything I am more obsessed with it than I am with cigars.

I am no malt expert either Tommy. I have only been dabbling in it the last twelve months or so.
I think I am still in the phase where everything tastes OK. I think that I have personally found the
Jura's an interesting one to research further. I do like the Balvenie too.
