That's actually a great idea GH! I've always been put of getting into whisky and different brandy's because the ones I'm interested in are too damn expensive to take a gamble on.
The question is, what should I get to sample of the list?

Glencadam looks V interesting available from my fave wine merchants and macallam looks interesting too, nice to be able to sample a 21year old bottle for under ?20. I've found the light unprepared stuff is pretty safe but only tried a fraction of them. I need a whisky guru.

I was considering mine and the Mrs's 10th anniversary or if I can wait that long my little boys 18th birthday...... Probably the Anniversary because it's nowhere near as long to wait.

Re-buying drams, it's certainly not the cheapest way to go in the long run.... But you do get the benefit of sampling.

Whisky tasting evenings/events are much more my style.

Tommy have a crack at Glenmorangie 18 for a great great malt that appeals to a lot of tastes.

Alternatively try three separate malts: Jura 10 or Glenfiddich 12, then Cragganmore 12 or Oban 14, then Caol 12 or Talisker 10.

If you try one each out of those pairs you can start to single out what you like in a malt and then it would be much easier to direct you what to try next.
