  • Tequila!

I had the pleasure of drinking some fine Tequila this afternoon. Let me start out with a disclaimer: I am by no means a tequila expert and do not pretend to be even in my wildest dreams. I don't even think the word novice is an adequate description of how green I am in regards to good tequila. Now that I have this out of the way. When the day started out I had a mission to do a side by side comparison of mezcal and tequila. For my taste mezcal is useful as a mixer but not straight. Out of the 11 or 12 tequila brands I tasted 2 of them stood out to me as noteworthy. The first being Cazadores Reposado. It seems to be very popular in Mexico but not so much here in the states. I will venture to guess this has to do with the marketing situation. I thought this was a very nice tequila for the asking price. The second was Herradura Reposado. I found this to be the best of the lot. I have never been one to think of tequila as a sipping liquor. This tequila totally changed my changed my opinion. I found it to be very very smooth with a dry finish. If you are looking to broaden your horizons or just enjoy a quality spirit I believe a bottle of Herradura is money well spent.

I am quite a fan of tequila and the Herradura is a pretty good sipping tequila which I have tried many times
However I stock Ambar Tequila which I find a little more refined and more come in flavour also I was one of the 1st establishments in London to take this fairly new family made brand on in the UK about 2 1/2 years ago

The blanco is a good base mixer as well as the reposado for a good margarita then the Anejo fantastic sipper followed by the out standing extra Anejo cost of the extra is approx ?70

That stuff nearly looks too expensive for body shots... in which case count me out!

My literary hero "Dirk Pitt" drinks tequila, however when I was at uni I had a very very nasty experience with tequila and the worlds worst hangover. Just the thought of it now makes me gag a little bit

If there was an emoticon for violent projectile vomiting it would be used here >>>>>

I shall look for it at the liquor store next time I am doing some shopping. If you put it above the Herradura it must be nice spirit.

I posted about Herradura here a while but alas the thread never got any love.

I absolutely adore Tequila and think it is the most under appreciated spirit by a long way. I often think that people judging Tequila are basing their thoughts on trying Jose Cuervo and the like.... Which is akin to saying "I don't like Scotch" when you have only drunk Bells.

Harradura is a GREAT drink. El Jimador is what I would call the first proper rung on the Tequila ladder, it's wgat people should be buying instead of Cuervo and Olmeca.

The best Tequila I have had though.... By far is Aqua Riva and it's only ?22 a bottle which makes it IMO the biggest bargain in the world of spirits. One day they will wake up and realise its a product worth easily twice the price. (Although I seriously hope they don't.)

Which reminds me that my Tequila stock is getting low.

Ambar Tequila is available at the one crown on the cigar dinner for you to try from blanco to extra Anejo

I tried the El Jimador yesterday also. In that price range I was more attracted to the Cazadores. Given the El Jimador was not bad at all.
