Bourbon Stagg Jnr vs Colonel EH Taylor Small batch
As you can probably see from the photo no variance in colour both look identical
Tasted the Colonel 1st as I expected it to be lighter given the % difference
Very pungent alc on the nose , light caramelised orange bitters and lots of fresh vanilla oak and a hint of plump raisins
Very powerful flavour with a backbone of citrus peels it has a super long length and a delicate finish
Then the Stagg
At first nosing it showed a raisin style nose with an integrated vanilla oak and undertones of almonds and walnuts
There was a sweetness in the palate of ripe raisins and sucre
Again a super long length with a palate of caramelised oranges much bolder than the colonel with a rich rounded sweet palate
Both excellent bourbons to be expected at the price
I then tried them both with a touch of water to see if they would open up but it was to there detriment
Both should be sipped as they come and appreciated hard to split them as one is delicate and one is bold however I would slightly favour the Stagg for its boldness richness and touch of sweetness that would remind me of a Barbecued pineapple juices like you get in an Argentinian restaurant
