Well the Diplomatico and Angostura came yesterday and after sampling them both (and both being delicious) I gave the Diplomatico a thoroughly good going over tonight.
Lots say this is sweet, and it is, to the point where my mouth is sticky but what a beautiful sweet stickyness is it. This is pretty much my first foray into alcohol that costs more than ten quid for a litre and I am mightily impressed.
I will have to get another bottle of this now, so will probably just get the el dorado 15 next, but after tasting this I am keen to try the zacapa as that seems to be across the board the most enjoyed.
I don't have any snifter glasses or specific rum glasses so this will have to do and do it did lol

i'm a big fan of dark rums and have tried a fairly broad range.... the clear winner for a regular sipping rum is Ron Zacapa 23. Mount Gay XO is also a firm favourite (a year living in barbados might have made me biased!)
Brugal (i find this bizzarely foul?!), Chairmans Reserve, Pyrat, Havana Club etc don't come close IMHO

el dorado 15 diplonatco reserva exclusiva and the antigua 1919 are great, dip n el dorado being faves. I got sone zacapa 23 n thats way over rated, tasted pretty bland and watery to me and given the price i wont be bothering again with it... its not bad but its not in the same league as dip n el dorado

Don't expect it to be crap because of the price though, I don't think theres much that compares at the price.
Edit: Oh or Angoatura if you can find it locally, about ?16Licky Licky before Sticky Sticky. - Puff Scotty 22/03/14

If the rum is of excellent quality, don't do anything to it.
If the rum is of reasonable to premium quality neat is still an option but also ice or/and lime are an option. Especially if you want to take a little bit of edge off.
If the rum is of lower to standard quality, feel free to mix it: Cola, Ginger, Root Beer, Dandelion & Burdock, Pineapple Juice, Orange Juice etc. are all options.
Ginger Beer or Pineappe Juice would be my choices, although I prefer rums in at least the reasonable to premium category and don't tend to mix.Licky Licky before Sticky Sticky. - Puff Scotty 22/03/14
