I don't really drink much anymore, but whenever I do go out for a couple I do enjoy a Czech lager - particularly Staropramen

But overall there is nothing better than a good German beer - there is a nation that knows how to enjoy their beer properly!

Absolutely. Found anywhere decent to have a smoke around Manchester? Seems to be something we are lacking up here.

Yeah definitely. There's no where up here which is pretty crap. Chester has the bar lounge but its not the best. The heaters are good but its not as cosy as most.

since we've strayed off from 'lager' and started mentioning ales and real beer...... i'll throw in my penny's worth and mention a drink that i think goes great with cigars........ guinness!! guinness also released a 'black lager' that is very nice! other than that, i always opt for begian or german beers! leffe, duvel, hoegaarden, franziskaner, spaten, warsteiner, bitburger........ you get the idea! lol

Once the weather is a little nicer and I can actually PM, we'll organise a little Manchester herf for anyone around the area

I'm a big fan of duvel...strong beer though! Anyone tried any of the Brewdog range? Enjoyed their IPA. The marketing is pretty cool too.

Hmmmmm... Shoot me in the jaw if I'm wrong but, i swear guinness black isnt smokey or strong at all.
It just reminds me of a (highland park? Cant remember right now) single malt that was completely black. I thought itd be peaty as hell because of the smokey first impression i got off it. Turns out it was just activated carbon soot in it for marketing.
Methinks the same is done with guinness black....... But cant remember as I've probably had the regular guinness twice

Yep, have had some of that Punk IPA, IIt's a good beer. I think they are from Edinburgh and make most of their beers in casks. Any Saltaire, salamander, Pictish would do me proud.

guinness is simply guinness!! i can't even begin to describe it's taste other than 'heavenly'!! as rob ayala says in the FoH review of h upmann connie 1's, they were 'creamy, just like a glass of guinness'!! i definitely don't get no smokey flavours off it!!

anyhoo, i'll be enjoying some tonight........

Never been a Guinness drinker really. Haven't had it since I was about 18 though. Maybe at 24 my tastes will have refined somewhat and I should give it another crack!

The missus brought me home an Asahi black beer to help with the 10+ hours of revision I'm doing daily at the minute! Wouldn't be strong enough for the ale drinkers here, but really easy drinking and helped take my mind off work!
