I have to say that I looked forward to my bottle of Old Pulteney for quite a while. I was, personally, a little disappointed. It's not a bad whisky, I just felt it to be a little underwhelming. The OP17, however... smashing dram.

This is one to please Alex, nipped out to grab the Missus 6 eggs for a marathon baking session from the local Morrisons and found 10yr Bushmills at ?21 which I couldn't resist... My first foray into WhiskEy!

I hope my pallet changes because I just don't get whiskey? Love a JD Bourbon or Grey Goose vodka on ice. Real ale is my tipple.

Jack Daniel honey!?! The thing already has hints of molasses and aspartame. The last thing you'd need is another sweetner......
Also, single malts are just complex. Theyre exactly like cigars. Different flavours depending on te region theyre made in. You have to find your nirvana when it comes to them. Sure youll start out nursing one brand cause you find it awesome or cheap. But as you allocate more time and money, youll later realise that brand really isnt that good. And youll go out to seek your Comfort area
Or Youll just not get into it.

                  To each their own tastes

I like the Old Poultney Alex .... though I must admit to preferring the Bowmore, which is now back to normal price.

                      .... and today .... Glenmorangie 10 Year down to ?25 .... ?9 off I think!

excellent stuff arf! i love this in a cuba libre....... funny, the off license up the road from me are doing the havana club 7 year old for ?20 a bottle!!

oh, btw, i picked up a bottle of laphroig 10 year old in tescos, ?29 (it's usually ?35 i think)!! i was a bit apprehensive because i read that it was a 'peat monster'!! i absolutely love the stuff, it's not as 'hardcore' as i was expecting it to be!! oh, i found that it pairs beautifully with bolivars.....

That's an awesome deal on the havana club!! Give the Laphroaig quarter cask a go...if you don't find that to be a peaty monster I'm not sure that you'll thing anything is!! How does the medicinal/iodine taste sit with you? It's not to everyones liking.

oh yes...... lol!! fantastic pairing, both definitely have oomph!! i'm okay with the iodine/ medicinal elements, to be honest, i found it to be peaty, quite 'mineral-y', briny with a touch of the said iodine!! i'm working my way around islay's whiskies (i was only ever an irish whiskey drinker) and to be honest, i haven't found the definitive 'one'..... they all have their place!! however, i am a sucker for bruichladdich.......
