bruichladdich: the laddie 10

Good advice, i was initially toying with the Glenmorangie Astar but will defo get the Laddie 10 (can also get the Astar but maybe for Chrimbo!)and a bottle of Macallan - Batch 1 for me (anyone tried it?)

Yo Mr C. what's your honest opinion on the "new" Morangies...some say Lasanta...I say
I actually think the quality of the whisky has gone down remarkably since the new owners had an input..IMHO. & price..shocking!

Puff, I think it was the Lasanta that was on super knock down offer at Morrisons very recently. I chose not to buy one, despite the saving, based on my disappointment with it once before. I've never been a Morangie kind of chap so haven't really charted its journey. However, for the price you pay for the Morangies (accepting the recent price of the Lasanta) I think there are more interesting whiskys out there - the Laddie Ten for example.

wise choice funkilee, you know it makes sense at ?32 a bottle (especially for a 10year old single malt)!!! if you need any further convincing, here's a great review from ralfy, who rates it at 90/100:

checking the whisky selection, i noticed i've only a bosun's half'un left of the laddie 10!!! as tradition dictates, whoever get's the bosun's half'un get the first drop of a new bottle! well, i gotta get me a new bottle in order to complete the tradition......

bought another bottle of this on saturday past, it's half gone already, lol!!! saying that, it's definitely a little different from my previous bottles!!! there's a slight smokiness, it's quite talisker like, which isn't so bad, but it's not the laddie 10 i know and love!!! reckon after this bottle has gone, i'll be moving on to another bruichladdich expression, the barley 2006 is quite exceptional.......

Well, skimming past this thread, you seem to know your Bladdie. I just came back from our canadian gov controlled liquor store in hopes to pick up the 16YO bourbon cast Laddie (they're discontinuing it in all of our province ). But got down there and turns out some mate picked up the last one in our entire city.. forever. Got a bottle of cheap Aberlour 12YO in depression after that......


But now i've this 20 year ol' beauty sitting here and not sure if i should open it or not.

It's labelled first edition so it's the first batch since McEwan took over the stillery. He even signed the bloody bottle.
Should i open this thing at all? Or sit on it and sell it at some point in time?

All suggestions are very welcomed,

good god man, that's a helluva catch!! there's 2 ways to look at this dilemma:
1. remember, whisky was made to be drunk, not stored away!
2. given that it's signed by jim mcewan and it's a first edition, you know it's gonna be worth money, big money!!

'scissors paper stone' or coin toss? lol!!!

Well i could get the laddie 15 (same batch, edition, and signed bottle) and drink that. Or i could get the Dalmore 22 (odd cask bottled by the ?Hart Brothers?). I do like the taste of the Dalmore and 22 years old in a cherry cask does sound great to enhance the citrusy taste, but the laddie 15 IS the laddie 15.......

I think I would tend to agree with you there. I had a dram of Laddie 10 at my dad's on Sunday, which was distinctly different to my Laddie 10.
Just out of interest, was the smokier one supplied in a tin or a cardboard tube?

my last 3 bottles were supplied in a cardboard tube!! the last bottle i bought was slightly smokey, the previous one to that was not!!

btw, i've bought 4 bottles over the space of a year...... i'm not an alkie, honest!! lol

Bloody alkie!

Mine was in a tin can, dad's was in a cardboard tube. It would have been interesting if there had been a trend that was marked by the packaging.

I shall be buying another soon because I am an alkie too (not really)
