I was running low on whisky so it was time for a bit of a restock ready for winter drawing in.
First up Nikka from the Barrel (gift set). This is a bit of an oddity as it's a cask strength blend of malt and grain whisky. Very punchy with pronounced orange peel, vanilla, caramel and spice. To me this is on a par with Aberlour A'bunadh, and that is saying something! A sensational dram. 9/10
Next is the well renowned Lagavulin 16 year. Typical Islay nose and palate with a lovely warm and smoky finish.
Much more refined than the Laphroiag 10 year which is my reference Islay. Will buy this again. 8/10
