So next on my list on moving on from strictly Aros after Orlik was Robert McConnell Scottish Flake I believe it's a mix of Darker Virgina's Kentucky and Perique topped with some Rum why Rum with something called Scottish flake no idea.
So on opening you have some.lovely dark pressed flakes with a little moisture not much but enough and this lovely tin note of well Rum fruit cake with a little spicy woody hit.
Interesting, it's rubs out nicely in the hand packs well and lights really well only took three lights to get going properly. Now the flavour where the Orlik was very citrus fruit cake on the smoke.
Scottish Flake actually is more woodsy with certainly more of a spicy peppery hit coming through which I think is enhanced by the Rum topping which gives it that rum type of finish to it. Its certainly more wood and earth than Orlik and has more of a nic hit. It's not bad though I'll be honest not as enjoyable as Orlik was.
This by no means makes it a bad smoke far from it, it's just well the leather aftertaste is quite pronounced in the mouth, where as Orlik leaves you tasting tutti fruity in smoke form not as sweet obviously with very bready tones Scottish flake leaves you with hits of spicy wood and leather in the after Tate once you have finished.
Room note I'm afraid is nowhere near as nice as Orlik it's not horrible but not anywhere near as pleasant. Scottish Flake isn't bad infact it's an interesting combo and could easily be someones favourite blend.
But in comparison for me with my tastes Orlik was the superior smoke. My final Virginia /burley/Perique tye blend to try is Biou which I'm most interested in.
