  • Just found a cheapie id forgotten about

I once had a beautiful meerschaum but no longer. ages ago I bought a horrid heap 'meerschaum' from Bay of Ease and yesterday I found it again. its moulded from what must have been ground up clay and IIRC it gets very hot so spoils the flavour. However, its not all bad so I do remember using it. Must buy some more baccy and give it a whirl again.

A great pleasure on cold days. I like really moist sweet tobaccos. Must find some fresh stuff

Go for it! I would advise a cheap 'corn cob' as a starter pipe as if you don't take to it you've lost very little, and they do smoke surprisingly well (lots of UK sellers, mysmokingshop etc) and you can do a lot worse than St Bruno ready rubbed as a starter pipe tobacco (particularly if you are used to cigars) which you'll be able to get from most supermarkets still.

I would suggest that you won't smoke more overall (as like cigars it is pretty hard to get a nicotine addiction with pipes, in 15 years of pipe smoking I can still 'forget' for long periods of time - weeks or several months etc. - to light up if I'm really busy with work (as like a cigar you need to give yourself the time to enjoy it), but you may find you smoke less cigars if you take to it. It's a slightly different experience and pleasure (cheaper overall too I think), but one that is worth giving a go
