I was packing up the car to go out on Friday morning, smoking my corn cob, when a neighbour from round the corner came over and complimented me on the gentle waft of pipe smoke. Turns out he is a Brother of the Briar and mostly smokes this lovely tiny fully bent stem pipe, like a Lovat that's drooped.
I'd been raring myself up to ask about his very elderly Labrador which sits out front when gardening is being done, but it was so nice to make an instant bond and get chatting over such an old fashioned (in a good way) hobby. He was taken aback that GQ is closing, and we lamented the loss, but it turns out there's an old fashioned B&M place a few towns over that I never knew about...
Oddly enough, I was doing an evening gig a couple of weeks ago and at intermission I smoked my pipe and got four or five very positive "that's such a nice thing to smell again" typed comments.
I guess if you're smoking a pipe, you must be doing things right!
